These courses will provide an extensive introduction to screenprinting processes over 6 evening workshops, with an additional full day editioning on the final Saturday. You will learn a method that is known as the photo emulsion technique: how to produce screenprints from any black-and-white photographic or hand drawn imagery, which is then exposed onto the emulsion-coated screen with ultraviolet light. You will learn and have time to practice the processes of coating, exposing, printing and editioning your artwork. Colour layering and registration will also be covered. Suitable for beginners.

ETCHING


Etching - Beginners

This course will provide an introduction to etching and is suitable for beginners and those with some previous experience who would like to refresh their knowledge and improve their basic skills. Etching techniques including drypoint, etching using soft and hard ground and aquatint will be covered. Students will experiment with both aluminium and copper. Editioning and experimenting with colour and different types of paper (chine colle) will also be included.


Photo Etching

This course will cover preparing the plate, application of light sensitive film, making the image transparent for exposure, and exposing the image onto the plate. Any type of image can be used whether it is hand drawn, photocopied or a photograph. Inking, wiping, registration and printing will also be covered. Suitable for all levels.


Green Etching
Tutor: Vincent Sheridan

This workshop will introduce participants to a greener method of etching. This technique involves using a mordant based on copper sulphate, saniflush, salt and water to etch aluminum and zinc plates. This method is environmentally friendlier, safer to work with and has very good results. The course is suitable for intermediate and advanced level in etching.

RELIEF & BOOK-BINDING


Relief Printing

This course will demonstrate the techniques of relief printmaking using the lino block. Transferring the image to the block, use of tools, inking, and printing using the press, and by hand, will be covered. Individual tuition will follow as students go on to produce their own plates. Blind Embossing, a technique which lends itself to the relief plate will also be discussed and students will be encouraged to incorporate this into their work. Note: The ability to create a print using hand tools makes this a very flexible technique to pursue without continued access to a print studio. Suitable for beginners.


Bookbinding

This class will introduce students to the craft of bookbinding. Beginning with simple book structures students will learn about paper, the materials and tools needed for creating books. Bookbinding is a wonderful resource, whether it is binding together old prints, works of art, for keeping notes or making a special gift. By the end of the day students will create their own hard-backed notebooks along with a variety of simpler pieces. Suitable for beginners.

If you have an interest in using your drawing skills within the printmaking process, then this course is for you. Plate lithography offer a wide range of mark-making possibilities and are very versatile, hands-on and open to manipulation. This course gives a complete introduction to Lithography covering drawing on the plates, etching and printing. This course is suitable for beginners.

COLLOGRAPH


Collograph

Collograph is a creative and experimental process exploring surfaces to be printed in multiple colours,using simple and accessible found materials, carborundum, textured papers, glue, resins and inks.Participants will learn how to select and combine different relief shapes, blind embossing, work with arange of techniques to ink up and wiping back the plate. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
