16, Exhibition of new works by sixteen artists in response to 1916 Easter Rising at Ormond Project Space, Ormond Studios, 6 Ormond Quay Lower, Dublin 1.

Curated by Jessie Malone and Cork Printmakers this is an exhibition of new prints by sixteen printmaking artists, created in response to the theme of the 1916 Easter Rising. The exhibition will open on Thursday 30 June at 6pm, at Ormond Project Space, 6 Ormond Quay Lower, Dublin 1.

2016 marks the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising and is a celebration of one of the most tumultuous rebellions in Irish history. Curated by Jessie Malone in association with Cork Printmakers, four artists from each of the following workshops; Belfast Print Workshop, Black Church Print Studio, Dublin, Cork Printmakers & Limerick Printmakers have collaborated in the creation of a unique box-set and exhibition of prints.

Participating Artists: Leo Boyd, Janine Davidson, Helen Lavery, Jessie Malone, Des MacMahon, Josephine McCormick, Eamonn McCrory, Shane O' Driscoll, Pauline O'Farrell, Suzannah O'Reilly, Kate O'Shea, Fiona Quill, Jim Sheehy, Dorothy Smith, Sylvia Taylor & The Project Twins.

Jessie Malone graduated from CIT Crawford College of Art & Design with a B.A. Honours in Fine Art in 2013. She was the recipient of the Cork Printmakers Emerging Artist Bursary 12 Month Award in 2013 / 14 and continues to be a Full Member of the Studio. She has exhibited her work throughout Ireland, as well as in Spain and Australia. Her work is part of both private and public collections, including the O.P.W.

Jessie approached Cork Printmakers in 2015, with a collaborative proposal to initiate a box-set of prints, in commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising. She wanted to bring printmakers together from across Ireland, to creatively explore the theme. An Open Submission Call was publicised to members of the four Print Workshops and Jessie curated the selection of four artists from each studio to participate. A box-set is common practice in the printmaking community. For this specific project, the sixteen artists were asked to make one image to an edition of twenty, on paper measuring sixteen inches square; each artist receives a box-set of all sixteen prints and each participating Print Workshop also receives a box-set. Cork Printmakers was delighted to support Jessie in her first curatorial initiative and to provide advice and project management / administrative assistance.

This exhibition forms a unique record of Irish contemporary art in the medium of printmaking and showcases the high standard of skills and variety of techniques being utilised currently in Ireland. Jessie wanted to ensure that this significant new body of work was accessible to the public. It has already been exhibited in The Centre of Commemoration, St. Peter's Church, North Main Street, Cork City, The Belltable, 69 O'Connell Street, Limerick, Belfast Room in The Ulster Museum, Botanic Gardens, Belfast, County Antrim BT9 5AB. This exhibition is the last leg of the tour!
