I'm just like you, Photopolymer Etching
Print Workshop: Limerick Printmakers
Kate O' Shea is a visual artist currently based in Sample-Street studios in Cork city. A recent graduate of Printmaking & Contemporary Practice in Limerick School of Art and Design, O' Shea received a 12-month Bursary Award for Cork Printmakers. She currently divides her time between the Printmakers and her own studio. O'Shea's work stems from a concern for contemporary social structures and the fractures within them. Inspired by the fight for freedom of 1916, ‘I am just like you' explores the struggle for freedom in ‘The Jungle'. Using photopolymer plates the print layers news imagery from the refugee camps in Calais. The text ‘I am just like you, I wanna be free' was handwritten on a structure in ‘The Jungle'. As we reflect on our past struggles for freedom we need to show solidarity with those who struggle for freedom today.
