Print Workshop: Limerick Printmakers
I studied Printmaking at Limerick School of Art & Design (1986-1990) and received an MA by research from Crawford College of Art, Cork (2004). I am a full time member of the Limerick printmakers since 1999 and I am on the Board of Directors since 2010. I am a director and co-founder of Parralle Editons a fine art publishing house here in Limerick. I teach part-time in the print department in LSAD, and I also run workshops in the Limerick Printmakers. My own practice is print specific but I enjoy using alternative materials and different ways to present my work when possible. The printmaking medium also influences how I work, through process led techniques and image making. I work in across a variety of printmaking mediums and I am constantly interested and influenced by new processes as well as the more traditional techniques. My prints are generally combinations of techniques in one finished piece from photo etching, monoprinting, silkscreen, chine colle, and collagragph. I like to present my work in instillation format as well as the conventional framed print. The images and themes in my work are from my own familiar environment and I also draw inspiration from occurrences in the everyday that I encounter. My response and reflection on these events mark for me a specific time but they are open and inviting to interpretation. I enjoy working with other artists on Collaboration projects and find these opportunities important to my practice as these encounters expose how other artist work as well as re-examining my own approach to making and creating.
